Welcome to the first of what I hope will be many blog postings from the wonderful University of Notre Dame.
Many professions require a certain amount of arrogance. Most great athletes, like Muhammad Ali, have a confident swagger about them. Singers and actors have a reputation for being self-centered. In a way, bloggers must also have a sense of self-importance. Every blogger believes that what they has to say should be read by the world, and that takes a large ego to do. For a while, I had thought about doing my own blog, but I did not feel that self-importance. However, after my father told me that the Notre Dame Club of Boston was looking for someone to blog from campus, I jumped on the opportunity. Jim Mills, communications director for the club, was kind enough to allow me to set up a blog here. Though of course blogging is not a profession for me (I’m almost a professional student, except I don’t get paid) I plan on taking this blog seriously, although I’ll try to add a tiny bit of humor. So after reading that, you’re probably wondering who the heck I am. My name is Scott Frano, and I’m a sophomore majoring in English at ND. I originally come from Pembroke, MA. On campus I live at O’Neill Hall, otherwise known as “the best dorm on campus bar none.” I work at the Huddle Mart in the Lafortune Student Center. This year, I hope to write for Scholastic Magazine and possibly The Observer. I love sports, particularly hockey. And Notre Dame football, but that’s a given. As far as content goes, I hope to put up a new blog posting at least once a week, but that will likely change to two or three times a week depending on my schedule. In addition to general postings about what’s going on on campus I hope to provide some specialized material. For instance, I would like to do a preview and review of each football game. Expect the first preview up tomorrow afternoon. I’m always open to any suggestions for extra content. One problem I’m having is naming the blog. Currently it shows up as “Campus Blog.” I’d like to make the name a little catchier if possible, and make some connection between Boston and Notre Dame. The first idea that came to my mind was “The Other Southie”, but I’m completely unsold on it. If you have any suggestions for a name please email me at
