Every year, the Notre Dame Club of Boston partners with the Notre Dame Alumni Association to bring a noted faculty member out to our area to deliver a "Hesburgh Lecture". The Hesburgh Lecture Series, started in 1986, is designed to spread Notre Dame's academic excellence to far-reaching communities, and serves as an ongoing example of President Emeritus Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh's passion for lifelong learning.
This year, we were extremely fortunate to be able to host Father Mark Poorman, C.S.C., Vice President for Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Theology at Notre Dame. On the evening of Friday, January 15th, nearly 75 members of our community joined Father Poorman to learn about and discuss the featured topic, "Challenges and Opportunities in Contemporary College Student Life". Many areas of student life were analyzed, from Notre Dame's unique residential life system, to the challenges of managing student alcohol use and finding ways to promote diverse and productive dialogue on campus. An informal reception followed the lecture, serving as an opportunity for our alumni to make new connections. The event was graciously hosted by Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Mass. Thanks to all of you who were able to attend! |
