Yesterday I journeyed over land and sea from Block Island to Cambridge, where I’ll be living with Elizabeth, my oldest sister and idol, for the next eight weeks. On the unusually choppy ferry ride, we were escorted by hundreds of spiny dogfish (sharks!). No one had ever seen anything like it. Navigating the busses, trains, and subways was equally an adventure, as the roads I’m used to in the cornfields of southern Indiana typically have a traffic of about 5 people/mile/hour. Elizabeth, her roommate, and her boyfriend have been wholeheartedly welcoming, showing me all the best hangouts around town. Today I made the trek to the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester where Vee gave me an impromptu tour. On first impression, the staff is extremely pleasant and cheerful, and the kids are spunky and full of energy. Dorchester is a drastically different end of town; Dad made me promise to carry pepper spray. I have great expectations for this summer. I have no idea what God has in store for me, but isn’t life always like that? I pray for an open mind and heart. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.(Proverbs 3:5,6) |
